Dr. Brian Reithel was appointed Interim Dean of the School of Business Administration at The University of Mississippi ("Ole Miss") on July 1, 2003. He became Dean on March 1, 2005. He is also a Professor of Management Information Systems. He previously served Ole Miss as the Chair of the MIS/POM Department, as Associate Vice Chancellor for University Relations, as Co-Director of the successful $525 million Commitment to Excellence Campaign, as the founding Interim Director of the Trent Lott Leadership Institute, and as the Co-Chair of the Sesquicentennial Celebration.
In his capacity as a professor in the information technology arena, he has been recognized for excellence in teaching, research, and service over the past 20+ years. For example, he is a past recipient of the Outstanding Teacher Award in the School of Business Administration and has also received the MBA Teacher of the Year Award.
In terms of research, his more than 70 articles and award-winning papers have appeared in leading journals and conference proceedings. He has also been quoted in articles in the national popular business press, including PC World magazine, ComputerWorld - a newspaper read by IT leaders in the Fortune 500, and Inc magazine, the premier national small business magazine. He has also authored articles for the Mississippi Business Journal and the Delta Business Journal in addition to serving as a trusted source of authoritative information regarding the interactions between emerging information technologies and business for the Clarion Ledger state-wide newspaper. He has appeared on National Public Radio and on Mississippi Public Broadcasting as a commentator on business and technology issues.
In terms of service to his profession, he was selected - from among more than 200 student chapter advisors nationwide - as the inaugural (1996) recipient of the Association of Information Technology Professionals' (AITP) national "Student Advisor of the Year" award in recognition of his dedicated efforts as the faculty advisor to the Ole Miss AITP Student Chapter. More recently, he served as the President of AITP's national Foundation for Information Technology Education for three years. At present, he is serving as member of the Executive Committee and as the national President for AITP -- the oldest IT professional association in the world.
A past recipient of the prestigious state-wide Top 40 Under 40 award from the Mississippi Business Journal and the Mississippian of the Year award from the Jackson chapter of the Association of IT Professionals, Dr. Reithel has been a member of the Ole Miss School of Business Administration faculty since 1991.
Through his consulting organization, Reithel and Associates LLC, Brian provides highly-regarded expert witness services on information technology-related matters.
